The North Yorkshire Ukulele Weekender - 22-24 February 2019
After having such a wonderful time in Pickering on The Uke Express in November, our new-found home for that event, The Pickering Recreation Club invited us back in February to give you something to kick start the new year!
So, Andy, Matt and Tim have put together a programme of activities over the weekend which will ensure a fun, warm and dynamic start to your Ukulele calendar for 2019!
Full Weekend Pass £40
Saturday Gig Only £12
Camper Berth £10
The fun will kick off on Friday night when doors open at 6pm. Then at 7pm we’ll have an Open Mic Competition session with Cake Belly, then a big quiz with prizes followed by a Ukulele Cabaret featuring some comedy, magic and music. You can then strum amongst yourselves until the bar closes at midnight.
On Saturday there will be a workshop from The League of Ukulele Gentlemen from 10am – 11am allowing you enough time to explore Pickering market and get some breakfast beforehand. Then a workshop from Chonkinfeckle from 11.45am – 12.45pm. There will then be time to go and find some lunch at one of the many pubs and cafes around this lovely little town. Then at 2.15pm – 3.15pm there will be a workshop from Dead Mans Uke. At 4pm there will be a big strum and sing Jug band for about an hour using the song sheets we will have sent you beforehand to print out.
After this we will need you to vacate the club, so we have some time to carry out sound checks and get the rooms ready for our fantastic triple header Saturday night gig. There are of course plenty of pubs in Pickering that would love to hear you strumming away during this time. The doors will then re-open at 7pm for entry to the gig.
There will be delicious food available on Friday and Saturday nights at the club, which was very well received when we were last there. Pie, Peas and chips with gravy, Burgers and hot dogs etc. Prices starting from £3.50!
There is a plethora of accommodation in around Pickering ranging from hotels, B+B’s and holiday cottages to camp sites. For more details on this go to, https://www.welcometopickering.co.uk/accommodation/ which is a very good place to start looking.
The Recreation club has said that camper vans are welcome. You will be able to park along the side of the beautifully kept Football pitch, directly outside the club. There are changing rooms there and you will be able to use the showers and toilets all weekend. There are no electric hook ups though so please come fully charged. The charge for parking your camper van is £10 for two nights and you must book a space when booking your weekend tickets.
We are confident that although it is February you will receive a very warm welcome from the Club and everyone in Pickering, what a great way to start your Ukulele calendar!
