Magic Fluke M80W Firefly Banjo Ukulele - Wood Fingerboard
Magic Fluke were founded in 1999 in the USA, and have been proudly making their instruments in their small workshop there ever since. It is fair to say that their dedication to making everything in house, using American made components does push the price up a little bit - but what you get is a first class instrument.
The M80W is a soprano scale instrument, equipped with D'addario strings and an 8-inch mylar (synthetic) head, over a pre-tuned acousticon pot. This M80W is fitted with a hardwood fingerboard (other options use polycarbonate fretboards), an upgrade which feels nicer to the touch when playing.
Don't be put off by the 'soprano' tag if you have larger fingers. The combination of the wide 36mm nut, fairly flat neck profile and easy reach offered by the 355mm scale make it very playable indeed.
The tone is loud and forward, and distinctly 'banjolele', without being overtly brash - in fact, for all its power, it still has a nice, rounded mellow edge.
