B-Stock Smiger GKC-80 Solid Top Concert Ukulele
This is a b-stock item, with a couple of small scuffs on the cedar top, pictured.
This is a really nice sounding, inexpensive solid cedar top ukulele. The sound is really full and loud, a real cut above many of the similarly priced models on the market. It projects really well and has a sound well beyond it’s cost!
As well as the solid top, there’s an arched back, which, like the sides, is made from laminate rosewood. That material also makes up the headstock faceplate, which has the Smiger logo etched into its unudual shape. The uke also features maple binding and some black and white purfling. Two strap buttons are already fitted so no need to add any. The closed, geared tuners seem very robust too.
This is a newer brand to the UK market but at least they’re attempting to stand out from the crowd of super-cheap instruments with quality construction that gives a really good sound. Yes, they're not quite at the top when it comes to finish, but you can excuse a couple of minor flaws in the finish when you consider the value.
