The Light Bird is an exclusive project between aNueNue and World of Ukes, to create a more affordable version of their fantastic Moon Bird series of ukuleles. The Light Bird ukes compare favourably with the Moon Bird in that the concert version is £699 (opposed to the Moon Bird at £1,099) and the tenor is £749 (opposed to the Moon Bird at £1,199). So, a significant reduction, but yes, still quite an investment. But this is a peach, a beauty! A real ukulele-for-life!
This project has taken a year of experimentation in materials and design to get the best possible balance between sound and price. The top is high grade solid cedar and the back and sides are solid African Mahogany, a classic and trusted combination in the acoustic and classical guitar worlds.
The ukulele features a slotted headstock with top quality chrome geared tuners and an ebony bridge, fingerboard and headstock cap. The front of the headstock has a mother of pearl aNueNue logo on the front, and on the back, a laser-etched World of Ukes logo.
There’s a compensated bone saddle and nut, with aNueNue black water strings fitted. The resultant tone is expressive and loud when needed, and subtle and delicate when played gently. When picked, or when playing melodies, the sustain and pronounced trebles lead the tune nicely - while the strings are well balanced to produce a fine chiming sound when strummed.
When the World of Ukes store first opened, in the week before opening the doors, a consignment of Moon Birds. I can remember the joy they gave me from their fantastic sound, and even the embarrassing little jig I did afterwards! This project came about as I wanted more people to enjoy that weak-at-the-knees moment when picking up such a superb quality ukulele. The ‘Light Bird’ has a reduced level of bling and doesn’t have the gorgeous, but expensive Gotoh UPT planetary tuners - but if does maintain that sheer quality of tone of the original Moon Birds.
The same gorgeous blue, luxurious hard case with silver aNueNue branding is included in the price.
