This is the signature ukulele of Hawaiian virtuoso Taimane Gardner. Made from all solid mahogany, with a satin finish and a subtle dark blue sunburst. It’s a modern looking instrument, and one of the few signature ukes out there that looks like the artist in question would usually be seen playing it (if that makes any sense). For example, the Phil Doleman signatire is a vintage looking instrument, and it suits Phil as he plays his vintage tunes. Likewise, Taimane is a vibrant, modern performer, and the Enya EUT-Moon seems to suit her too.

This tenor ukulele is fitted with D’addario strings. These confused me a bit as I often find them a little muted, but in this case, the volume is strong and the projection really quite explosive. These are thin body ukes too, with a little over half of the regular body depth of a ‘normal’ uke. Where does all that sound come from? No idea! But it’s certainly there. The sound isn’t thin, with the solid mahogany body giving some depth, but overall it is really quite clear and powerful. Again, I can imagine Taimane’s percussive, high energy style really working with this. Clearly, it’s been well thought out rather than just another ‘stick your name on the headstock and count the money’ signature model.

The Enya EUT-Moon BU comes with a well made, lightly padded gig bag with a Polynesian illustration, and matching strap that attaches to the two strap buttons that are in place on the base and shoulder of this tenor ukulele. The nut width is a generous 38mm and the enclosed, geared tuners work smoothly and well. The pearloid tuners on the headstock might stand out on other instruments but here they match the dark and light theme of the rest of the uke, and in particular, the white abalone moon shape motif around the soundhole.

The EUT-Moon did surprise me a bit in its forceful clarity and volume, it’s chiming quality and it’s impressive volume. It’s a good one.
