This exotic looking beast is the Flight Mustang electro tenor ukulele, made from all solid acacia, with an active pickup fitted. It’s a very handsome thing, with the deep coloured, pretty acacia, a gloss finish and some unusual decorative features that you don’t find on every ukulele at this level. first, that headstock, which is really interesting and futuristic to look at, and the fingerboard and bridge and made of acacia too - which is not the norm (although no reason why not - and means the ‘all solid acacia’ tag is accurate!). There’s also some abalone around the soundhole, a scalloped cutaway and - a particular favourite of mine, though I don’t know why, asymmetric position markers on the fingerboard.

This tenor electro is idea for those with larger hands or who struggle for room with a thinner ukulele neck, as it comes in at a spacious 38mm. Increasingly this is a feature that people look for - not to my taste (I play 35mm), but then again, I’m can’t own every ukulele I stock in my personal collection, so I’ve no problem in having things that suit others more!

As well as decent quality geared tuners (that look smart in black and gold), there’s a bone nut and compensated saddle, D’addario rectified nylon strings and a very smart, well padded red Flight gig bag. Oh, and a Double brand active pickup with tone and volume controls tucked discretely in the soundhole too - something which does a really decent job.

The tone of the Flight Mustang tenor uke is smooth and rolling, with plenty of bass response and an overall mellow (but not quiet) feel. It looks the part, plays nicely and there’s plenty of value too. And, now I’ve got to the end I realise I forgot to mention the intricate sound port on the side of the ukulele, which has a zig-zag pattern. I did worry this might be brittle but it feels really solidly done.
