This is the Phantom model from Flight, a gloss finished all solid acacia tenor ukulele, with a Double brand active pickup so you can amplify it if you choose, as well as enjoy the acoustic tone. It’s certainly a smart looking uke, beginning with the nicely varied grain of the acacia, as well as the nice decorative touches like the black binding, delicate orange purfling and the modern looking headstock.

On that headstock, there was a time in the ukulele world where every uke had a three-crowned headstock, a Martin clone, but those days are long gone as there’s all sorts of innovative and interesting headstock shapes now. This is amongst the most handsome of these new variants in my view. Either side are good quality black and gold geared tuners, plus there are clear fluorocarbon strings and a bone nut and saddle. That nut is 38mm, which is wider than average. While this is perfectly playable for most players - those with larger fingertips will certainly benefit from the extra room.

Solid acacia can be a little subdued, but this Phantom model has a reasonable volume - not the loudest but loud enough to play alongside others - and it gives a sweet tone, with some nice depth alongside tight trebles. It’s not as punchy as spruce, no, but has its own more subtle quality that would lend itself nicely to chord melody and jazz styles.

The pickup, which has tone and volume controls just inside the soundhole, is a good bit of kit that performs well too. The Flight Phantom also comes with a very good quality gig bag in red too.
