The Ortega Hydra Twin Neck ukulele is just a little bit crazy! An electro acoustic ukulee with two necks (you could have guessed that would be the case with a twin neck!) One neck is a standard 4-string tenor and the other is an 8 string tenor. You can switch between the clean tones of the regular tenor and the folky jangle of the 8-string at will.
Acoustically the tone is decent - perhaps what you'd expect from a laminate body (ovangkol in this case) ukulele, quite smooth and with decent volume - but, with a uke like this you'll want to show off with it plugged in (there's an argument you'll be showing off just by playing it at all!). The active EQ system has a three way switch allowing you to amplify either neck or both at the same time - which is does seamlessly and to excellent effect with a really strong plugged in performance.
With a strap it is surprisingly comfortable to play, impressively balanced - and it has a strap button fitted as standard. Both necks are 38mm so very spacious. The back has an arch to it and there's a comfort edge too.
Thankfully, it comes with a tailor made gig bag too.
