This Snail BHC-5T occupies a fairly crowded part of the ukulele market, but still manages to stand out as a really good option. It combines good specification, with a solid sitka spruce top, with good looks (gloss finish, abalone inlays, maple fingerboard inlays). It has a slotted headstock too.

Chiefly though, you'd buy a ukulele for the sound and the BHC-5T from Snail is a really good example of how ukulele manufacturer's have upped their game in recent years. It has plenty of volume and brightness from the solid spruce, but the fluorocarbon strings also deliver a nice sustain and a smoothness that is impressive. While it sounds nice when strummed, it comes alive in particular with instrumentals and pickings, using that sustain to good effect.

The back and sides are a very attractive laminate ebony, which looks great, particularly under the gloss finish. The fingerboard is also ebony, and while that features an inlaid flower motif, there are position markers down the side of the neck so you know where to put your fingers!
