Snail S20T All Solid Acacia Tenor Ukulele

£399.00

The S20T from Snail is certainly a handsome looking ukulele. I do like that Snail are constantly trying to innovate and improve, and this is a good example of that process - it's really nicely put together and has such a sweet, subtle tone, they're clearly looking for customers who have an ear for quality, as opposed to just lots of volume for strumming.

There's a real sparkle to the sound, with a dreamy, mellow edge. It isn't the loudest uke, all solid acacia rarely is, but it is harmonically rich, well balanced and extremely pretty to listen to. Snail's clear fluorocarbon strings accentuate that mellowness and sparkle, and something with a bit higher tension (like World of Ukes Clarity Strings) can tease out more volume and brightness. That said, there's no complaints from me about the sound - it is delightful.

There's some nice figuring in the acacia used, with a comfort edge to rest your arm on to make things more comfortable when playing. The 35mm nut width is so standard it feels perfectly familiar, while those lower tension strings ensure that fretting is easy all over the neck.

The Snail S20T also features a very unusual, but very attractive soundhole decoration, that really seems in keeping with the overall look. There's some nice binding too, around the body and up the side of the smooth ebony fingerboard, plus a rosewood faced slotted headstock. The tuners, which are more than decent, look nice too, with black metalwork and gold colour cogs.

The S20T comes supplied with a lightweight gig bag too.
