This is the Flight 4SBB baritone ukulele, a signature model developed with ukulele artist, 4stringboy, also known as Sammy Turton. It’s a lovely looking thing, put together with Sammy’s specifications (you might notice he clearly likes black). It has a solid spruce top and solid rosewood back and sides, with spalted maple cutaway and details for a very attractive, modern look. It’s finished in high gloss, very nicely indeed… it’s very shiny and reflective and when I was taking the first photos, I got a lot of reflections of myself. Thankfully I binned those and adjusted my camera angles (it was that or stop taking photographs in the nude haha).

This acoustic baritone is clear and (in baritone terms) quite bright. Now with DGBE tuning, you still get plenty of bass response, but the trebles are clear and strong too - making it ideal for fingerstyle play. That said, it sounds good with a good ol’ strum too, so don’t see it as a one trick pony!

There’s plenty of volume, and after set up here it plays very nicely too. The D’addario black nylon strings it comes with are relatively low tension, making fingering slick and easy. Perhaps if it was me I would consider fluorocarbon treble strings, like aNueNue Blue Moon - as I like a bit firmness and bite to those top strings but… if this isn’t my signature uke for starters, and they’re perfectly nice as they are too! However, if you would like to change (well, I’d say upgrade) to the aNueNue Blue Moon strings, you can choose that option from the dropdown below. It’s more money. Worth it, I’d say.

Another factor on the playability front is the neck, which is finished in satin, rather than the gloss used for the rest of the instrument - which many people who suffer from hands sticking to gloss necks like.

Sammy is a very nice man and a very talented and skilled player. He’s very well known but if YOU don’t know him, don’t worry about that… this is a really nice baritone ukulele for anyone. You don’t have to be a fan to enjoy a 4SBB!

This instrument comes with a good quality padded gig bag (in black, naturally!) At the bottom of this page there are some common add-ons, including strap buttons (which it doesn’t come with).
