Flight Fireball All Solid Mango Electro Acoustic Baritone Ukulele
The Flight Fireball baritone is a really nice instrument, with fine looks, good specification and good playability when it’s undergone some work on the bench here at World of Ukes before dispatch. The 38mm nut width and satin neck feel good in your hands, the all solid mango is a treat for the ears, and of course, the stained mango and futuristic design means the visuals match the other qualities to give a great all around package. It’s also fitted with a Double C1U active pickup, which is definitely one of the cleaner sounding pre-fitted units on the market at the moment too.
Starting at the top, the Flight Fireball baritone has a really interesting looking (but perfectly functional in a ‘normal’ sense) open headstock, with perfectly good black and gold geared tuners. I am a sucker for off-centre fingerboard position markers - such a small detail, but for some reason I am a big fan! The bridge pins and bridge shape are attractive and the black binding, cutaway scoop and soundhole rosette all set off the grain of the mango very well (which looks extra nice under a high gloss finish.
Flight have opted for black nylon strings, with a wound D and G, and nylon unwound B and E. The treble strings have a pretty, shimmering sound, and the bass strings aren’t overly dominant, giving a good balance. The tone is full and rich, with sweet overtones. It certainly ticks the boxes when it comes to sounding nice.
The Fireball Baritone from flight does have a fairly wide ‘bottom’, which makes the addition of a very good quality padded bag a good idea as it’s a touch too big for regular hard cases. (Just to be clear, a gig bag is included!)
