This is a nice, tidy electro baritone ukulele from Kala. It’s made with curly mango, which is an interesting look, with a darker stain. It’s a laminate ukulele with a satin finish, but it feels a nice, light construction and has a lively, rather than boxy, tone. It also has a Kala active pickup, with tone and volume controls, and a built-in tuner on the pre-amp unit.

The tone is quite even, with proper baritone depth, but an easy, natural sounding treble which isn’t dominated by those big bass strings. It’s got good volume and I don’t think it sounds ‘laminate’ particular at all. If you’d told me the top was solid, I’d have beleived you.

The KA-CM-BE is fitted with Aquila strings, with a wound D and G, and supernylgut B and E. While not the biggest Aquila fan I don’t mind them on a baritone to be honest, and it soudns decent with them on. Kala have gone with rear-facing Graphtech geared tuners, which look classy, especially with the black headstock cap, which features the gold Kala logo.

The nut with is 38mm, which these days is pretty standard for a baritone, so in that repect it feels ‘normal’. It also comes with a padded gig bag, which isn’t the case with all Kala ukes, so that’s a bonus.

At the bottom of the page you’ll come across some easy to add extras. Keep in mind these are standard across all my ukes so you can ignore some! You don’t need a low G as it has a low G (and even lower D), and it has one strap button fitted already. It comes with a gig bag too - so you don’t need that!
