Kala KA-TK-B-CE Teak Tri-Top Electro Baritone Ukulele
This Kala KA-TK-B-CE is a great value baritone ukulele, particularly as it has an active pickup allowing you to plug it into an amp. It’s very handsome too, with its teak laminate and central strip of mahogany. Although it’s a laminate body, there’s a really decent sound, which feels controlled and well balanced acoustically. And add in the fact it’s an electro baritone uke at this money and it seems a winner to me!
When Kala UK told me they’d got this series in I was a little hesitant. I have so many models and these days you can often get ukes with solid tops for the price of pretty looking laminates. But then I was informed there was an electro baritone uke in the series and my ears pricked up. Then I saw the price and it just seemed too good to miss!
This baritone has a 38mm nut width, Aquila DGBE tuned strings and geared tuners. The set up is OK but included in my price are several adjustments and optimisations beyond the standard. So, if you see the box shifting giants start discounting, I can stand by the fact mine will have had time on the bench to make it play better!
These aren’t hugely expensive instruments and if you inspect the finish closely you can find tiny, minor imperfections - which is to be expected at this sort of price level for this sort of specification. They’re not things that jump out at you, and don’t effect the sound.
The Kala KA-TK-B-CE doesn’t come with a bag or case, but they are available as optional extras to add to your basket at the bottom of this page, if required. It comes with a strap button at the base as standard. You can opt for a second one, again at the bottom of the page (if you do this, put two in the basket - they’re fitted free - just to tell me you’ve read this and definitely want a second one!). Those options are standard to every uke, so you can ignore the bit about a low G, as this already has one (and a low D for that matter, in DGBE).
