Kala are famous for the UBASS models - and here we have the Nomad, which is a much more affordable version of their solid mahogany versions, featuring much of the same specification, but with a satin-finish, laminate mahogany body. It really makes sense for Kala not to just aim at the top end of the fairly niche market for short scales basses like this, and the affordability here is excellent, especially given it has a decent gig bag included.

With just enough acoustic volume for quiet practice, this bass uke comes into its own with the built in pre-amp and undersaddle pickup, with tone and volume controls and a handy built in tuner. It’s fitted with thick polyurethane Thunder Black strings - which give a upright bass-like tone, but without taking up all that space.

The UBASS series has long been popular, and this is an excellent, more affordable addition to Kala’s range.
