This is the orange burst paisley version of Kala’s reliable and popular solid body bass ukulele series. It’s one that will doubtless divide opinion as it’s pretty whacky to look at. On first viewing it didn’t particularly appeal to me personally, but then again… what I like and what you like might differ! So I figured as I rate the instrument underneath the crazy design, it wouldn’t hurt to stock it!

Technically a short scale bass guitar, the overall length of 33.25” is not too much bigger than a baritone ukulele, so these UBASS models, which have a 23.5” scale, don’t look out of place as part of a ukulele group or ensemble. They’re rugged and compact, and come with a nicely padded gig bag for ease of transport (although like any solid body bass, they’re fairly heavy).

They have a passive split coil pickup with tone and volume controls, with the tone knob giving you a broad range of bassy tones, from rich, deep and rolling to bright and explosive. This paisley UBASS is fitted with La Bella roundwound strings and has a truss rod, gloss finish and satin, maple neck.

I like these instruments and customers have too. I don’t like the official name, the UBASS-SB-P-ORB-FS, but nobody’s ever going to call it that!
