The Magic Fluke baritone is a ukulele that has really impressed me. I thought it would be nice, as Magic Fluke make good stuff. But I wasn’t expecting to love it as much as I do - especially this model with a solid koa top. It has a really nice, deep tone, with a complexity that really does the business for me. It’s rich and mellow, and yet with enough zing in the D’addario strings to carry melodies well too.

If you’re unfamiliar with Magic Fluke’s iconic Fluke body shape, it’s designed to stand flat on the floor. This baritone shares the same body size, with a longer neck meaning you get an 18.5” baritone scale length with an instrument that’s fairly compact at 25.5” in lenght overall. Tuned DGBE, this gives you a baritone that’s ideal for travelling, as it’s a bit shorter than a regular tenor uke.

It has a 37mm nut width, with a zero fret, and feels both roomy and comfortable, with a tactile satin-finish walnut neck making the playing experience pleasant and rewarding. It is fitted with Grover friction pegs on the open headstock, and has a walnut fingerboard and metal frets.

Being made in Massachusetts by an enthusiastic team of craftspeople perhaps doesn’t make the cheapest instrument, but actually, compared to a number of other instruments at a similar price… well, I feel this really stands up against them in terms of its rich tone and innovative design.

For a range of extras, you can scroll down to the bottom of the page. You’ll find things like low G fitting and gig bags. I can provide those for this model but won’t fit a strap button. The design of these is intended to stand flat on the floor - and a strap button interferes with that. If you want to fit a strap, I’d suggest some command strips (velcro strips with adhesive) as an effective way of using a strap without removing this design feature and affecting any future re-sale value.
