This is the Tiny Bass TR-4 from Japan, a short scale fretless jazz bass equipped with handmade (quite eye-wateringly expensive, but lovely) Dogal flatwound strings from Italy. It’s a handsome beast and plays like a dream. The combination of being fretless and having the flatwound strings allows you to smoothly slide between notes, which, while I am not that adept as a bass player, is a lot of fun!

These short scale bass guitars are perfect for a ukulele group visual aesthetic. While they were made for bass guitarists, their shorter scale length and overall size (smaller than Kala or Flight solid body instruments), make them ideal for uke groups. And they’re really lovely bits of kit too, with great, meaty, smooth bass tone.
