UKE Magazine Awards 2022
Our awards this year focus on instruments, with expanded categories to allow you to choose what you think are the best ukes on the market. In each category, we’ve made four nominations. But, if there’s a different brand that you really love that’s not on the list, on the entry form you can submit a vote for that instead, by letting us know what you want to go for.
The entry form below asks for your email address - which will be used for nothing apart from informing you if you’ve won a prize (in this case a Risa 3D printed uke), and to verify that you are a UKE Magazine reader (entries are only possible from readers to prevent any social media efforts to skew the results).
Taiwanese educator and ukulele performer David Chen includes his arrangement of Love Me Tender in UKE Magazine issue 30. He made this video to accompany his piece and explain the Hawaiian two-fingerstyle techniques used with it.
Here is Choan Gálvez demonstrating the piece he wrote and included in UKE Magazine Issue 30, Brevity for Pam, for baritone ukulele (or regular uke with a low G)
Issue 30’s cover star Abe Lagrimas Jr.’s tune, Mahana, is available in tab format in the magazine. Here’s a video of Abe playing the piece himself.
In Issue 30, Phil Doleman discussed the chord pattern for Rhythm Changes, and its use in a multitude of jazz tunes.
In this video playalong, you can follow the chords from the magazine on screen, with a jazz ensemble accompanying you!
In UKE Magazine issue 30, Mike Haysom explains swing notes. At the end, he set an exercise for you to try at home. This is Mike’s video of that exercise, so you can check how it is supposed to sound, and if you’ve put the theory to the test correctly.
In Issue 29 of UKE Magazine, you can win a Kala KA-FMTB-C ukulele. Answer the questions below correctly and you’ll be in with a chance of being drawn out of the hat on 1 May 2022.
Below is a series of images. Study the images and answer the questions about them below.
The video from Lil Rev to accompany his article on Boogie Notes from Issue 29 of UKE Magazine.
There’s a new video of Rev here too, playing the St Louis Blues - so you can follow the tune and hear it in ‘Lil Rev’ style. His Boogie Notes are in evidence in this recording!
This is the video to accompany the article in Issue 29 of UKE Magazine, discussing how to avoid making mistakes when buying a ukulele.
To be in with a chance of winning an Eden Origin Tenor ukulele, complete one, two or three of the forms below. (There’s one entry into the draw per form filled in, so up to three entries per person). You don’t have to complete all three though, if you don’t want to!
Each form is a request for your reviews on a number of features to be included in future magazines. Entries are needed before 1 February, 2022.
UKULELE PLAYERS YOU ADMIRE: Let us know which ukulele player has inspired you, helped you learn or has simply made music that you’ve really enjoyed. Include a little about why you feel this way. Guide 1 to 2 paragraphs.
UKULELE CLUB HEROES: Is there someone in your ukulele group that has gone aboveand beyond the call of duty? Perhaps they have led the club out of the pandemic and ensured people in the club remain connected? Or just that they’re friendly and welcoming, and give your group that X factor? Let us know who they are, and what they’ve done for your club. Guide 1 to 3 paragraphs.
ASK THE EXPERT: Perhaps the least amount of work to qualify for an entry here! Simply pose a question that we can match to an expert in that field to answer in a future issue.

In UKE Magazine Issue 26, you can win a prize of a Lanikai MA-5T tenor ukulele by completing the survey below by 1 August, when one winner will be drawn from the entrants.
The questionnaire comes from ukulele artist Matthew Quilliam, who will anonymously use responses in academic research he is conducting.
