aNueNue UC-100 Sitka Bird Solid Spruce & Mahogany Concert Ukulele
This is the UC-100, from aNueNue's Bird Series of ukuleles. This flagship series contains their 'good stuff', and this concert uke sits well in that category. It could be considered a 'Moon Bird Light', in that it has some of the DNA of the famous Moon Bird model - and indeed that is true in terms of its excellent bass response. But it's not just a cheaper moon bird, it has its own distinctive sound.
The best way I can describe the sound is that it has piano-like qualities. There's a smooth warmth, with a gentle, rich attack that reminds me of the action of a piano. It's impressive how different it is, warm and mellow and yet really expressive. Good stuff!
The aNueNue UC-100 has a solid sitka spruce top which has been paired with solid African mahogany for the back and sides. There's a gloss finish, expertly applied, mahogany binding and an irridescent abalone soundhole decoration. The body shape has aNueNue's distinctive cutaway shape and there's a slotthed headstock with ebony faceplate too. The nut width is a comfortable 36mm.
The UC-100 comes with aNueNue’s extremely well padded gig bag, a real excellent bit of kit. For other common add-ons, like strap buttons and low G fitting, scroll to the bottom of the page for extras.
I had thought that this UC-100 would be an attempt to make a cheaper Moon Bird, but with its vintage smoothness is definitely has a place at the table all of its own.
