Enya EUC-MAD Blue Solid Mahogany Concert Ukulele
This Enya EUC-MAD blue concert ukulele is made from all solid mahogany, with a blue transparent finish that allows the wood grain to show through. This is high gloss, as you can see by the struggle I’ve had with reflections in the photos!
Before getting on to the EUC-MAD blue concert uke’s tone and specification, there’s an admission that, certainly often, you can get this model cheaper if you get it direct from Amazon. I will check and set up each one - and having experience with these ukes now I often think that the action could do with lowering for example. Not in all cases, so you can go to Amazon and get lucky. And, as I get them from the UK distributor, I’d stress that this doesn’t mean I’m making much more profit than Amazon either! But I will spend the time to get it right, rather than send you a box that’s never been opened. Oh, and I pay tax. But, you know, I wouldn’t blame anyone getting something cheaper, just wanted to highlight what I think is the added value.
Having said all that… the price is pretty keen anyway I think, with that all solid mahogany construction, fluorocarbon strings, a very neat build and a nice slotted headstock. The fingerboard is richlite, a very smooth, tough man made material, which I think is great for its uniformity and smoothness, and the compensated saddle is nubone. The nut is 36mm which is thinner than the tenor equivalent, but suits me much better (I don’t have small hands but just find 35/36 suits me the best - but that’s a personal choice).
The tone is sweet and mellow, with some mahogany warmth coming through and nice harmonics. It isn’t a powerhouse in terms of volume (but neither is it quiet), and there’s a delicate sparkle in the trebles that rises out of that mellow mix to add to dynamism to your melodies - all while being subtle and pretty. That sounds a bit florid, so to conclude, unless you’re a frantic strummer looking to make as much noise as possible (and there’s no harm in that if you are), then the sweetness is really rewarding.
A good padded gig bag is included.
