The Enya EUC-X2K is a ukulele with a lot of spec for the money, and even then, looks more expensive than it is. In fact, there was a delay between placing my order with the UK distributor and receiving my first X2K and when I checked the invoice, I though there had been a mistake! It wouldn't look out of place if you added another £100 onto the price... but I wont!

The acacia used has some nice dark streaks and looks very pretty. The top is solid acacia, while the back and sides are durable HPL (high pressure laminate), with a matching acacia veneer. This embrace of technology is evidence further by the use of Richlite for the fingerboard (a mix of recycled paper and resin - jet black, durable and super-smooth).

There's a gloss finish and an interesting soundhole decoration, made up from different pieces of abalone - a bit more intricate than your standard abalone rosette. Unusually the gloss finish is on the top only, but certainly it still looks good and is a unique twist. The fingerboard features a pretty floral inlay, but has nice, clear markers down the side of the neck. There's a slotted headstock with geared, smart-looking black and gold tuners too. There's a nubone compensated saddle and a 36mm nut, which together with the radiused fingerboard, makes for a very comfortable playing experience.

The tone is strong in both the bass and treble ends of the register, combining for a well balanced tone with some clarity at the top end and a pleasingly warm backdrop. There's not the most volume from the fluorocarbon strings, so it would suit an instrumental player - someone developing their skills, as opposed to something you'd take along to a uke group for example.

All in all, a very fine looking ukulele with a pretty tone, for not as much money as you'd expect.
