Flight Iris Tinta All Solid Mahogany Purple Concert Ukulele
The Flight Iris Tinta concert ukulele, here in the purple finish, is a very good value uke, with a good specification for the price and lots of things going for it in the looks department. It’s also kitted out with a lot of features that are a reaction to what the market wants - things like a gloss finish paired with a smooth feeling satin neck, for example. It’s a good example of a company that’s looking at what is popular in the market (colour, gloss, slotted headstocks) and responding accordingly.
This purple Flight Iris Tinta concert ukulele has an all solid mahogany body. It has geared tuners and a 35mm nut width. I am no physicist (in fact, I am so not a physicist I am not sure I’ve even spelled physicist correctly), but while the strings are advertised as fluorocarbon, I really think they’re rectified nylon. They have the signature warmer tone and a greater percussive ‘noise’ when you strike the strings. I am waiting on the lab to confirm the results (not really).
The sound is mellow and warm, but with that initial percussive attack. It looks great and sounds good. Maybe it looks better than it sounds, but it sounds right for the price (and looks better than most at this price level). It also comes with a reasonable padded gig bag with two backpack straps.
With that purple stain, that allows the grain of the mahogany to show through, and high gloss finish, you might find, if you peer very closely, the odd finish imperfection. Nothing big, you understand, but if you are an obsessive perfectionist, there might be the odd tiny finish imperfection.
At the bottom of the page you’ll find some optional extras you can add to your basket, including strap buttons. The Iris Tinta comes with one button (so if you want a second at the heel of the neck - please add two so I know you want two in place and have read there’s one there already!). It also has a bag so you can ignore that (although a hard case is possible if you want it).
