Flight Songbird All Solid Maple and Mango Slimline Concert Electro Ukulele

£499.00

This is the concert version of Flight’s popular Songbird model, a slimline concert electro ukulele. The tenor came first, went down extremely well, but of course whenever something new and eye-catching comes out, inevitably there are calls for different versions, be that left handed, without a pickup or in this case, concert. Thankfully there’s a concert electro Songbird now in the roster!

These ukes have a thinner than normal body, almost half the same of some regular concerts. Despite these, they don’t lack volume and have a much fuller sound than you’d expect. Thin uke, thin sound, right? Wrong! The solid maple gives a nice smooth sound (as well as a pretty purple stain), and the mango back and sides, which are also solid, look great in contrast. True there’s an active Double C1U pickup too if you need to go louder - but it’s got a decent acoustic volume that won’t be drowned out in a group setting.

The concert version of the Songbird, unlike its larger tenor cousin, has a more standard neck width, at 35mm. While the uke has a nice shiny gloss, the back of the neck is a satin finish. There are geared tuners and Worth Brown, high G strings as well.

At the bottom of the page you’ll find a range of easy to add options for ‘extras’. These appear on every page so don’t worry about the gig bag as you’ve covered there (as is the Flight Songbird concert ukulele, covered in a nicely padded bag that is!). The jack socket doubles as a strap button so if you just want one place to hang a strap from, that’s fine. If you want a second one (though I think these are great, with that sleek headstock, to tie around), I can do that. Add two strap buttons to your Songbird order (to tell me to fit the second one… so I know you’ve seen the jack socket works as one). Wow… complicated eh! Finally, while it will fit in a hard case, it’s thin size means you’d be best with the bag (or add a layer of foam or a cloth to make the thin body fit a case designed for a deeper uke).

And hang on, I just said finally didn’t I? And now here’s one more point… if you want a low G I would strongly suggest the Fremont wound one - for this Songbird ukulele or any concert in fact. Unwound strings have less tension and feel a bit floppy on a concert for me, so it would be smoothwound for me!
