Kaka KUC-28D Solid Top Concert Ukulele, by Enya
Kaka is another brand name made by the Enya company, so their ukes are interchangeable, but identically specified. This Kaka KUC-28D is a very affordable solid top concert ukulele, with a nice gig bag. Again it's an example of how quality is improving at the serious beginner end of the market.
This satin finish KUC-28D has a solid spruce top, which is decorated with an abalone soundhole rosette and faux tortoiseshell binding. The Richlite bridge is nicely shaped and that material is used for the fingerboard too, while there's also laminate mahogany back and sides and a slotted headstock. Two strap buttons are fitted as standard and it even comes in a very nice quality gig bag.
To be honest, with decent geared tuners too, and nice, clear fluorocarbon strings, I could almost stop there and say 'with all this, at that price, what are you waiting for', but if it sounds poor all that would be for nothing. Thankfully the tone is focussed, loud, bright and zesty. You'd expect that pep from spruce, and yes it isn't tinny, but benefits from some fullness that creeps in after that initial spruce attack.
Enya are quite active with their marketing, and selling through Amazon directly. This usually means I'm quite reticent to stock a brand that is like that (celebrity YouTubers pushing you to Amazon affiliate links is not my style), but with this model, its such good value - that with the added value offered by it being inspected and set up here, it seems churlish not to offer such a great value concert uke.
