Kiwaya KPC-F All Solid Sycamore and Mahogany Concert Ukulele

£1,599.00

This is the Kiwaya KPC-F, a really interesting ukulele, with stunning looks and a beautiful sound, paired more unusual materials and stunning looks. I know I already said stunning looks but I thought it was worth mentioning twice! It also has what Kiwaya describe as their ‘original concert’ body - which is slightly smaller than a regular concert and smaller than others they make. In fact, others have advertised ukuleles from this series as long neck sopranos. But I prefer a compact body soprano as it’s definitely not a soprano body. Whatever the size is it’s flipping brilliant!

The soundboard is made from beautifully figured ‘Satin Sycamore’, showcasing an eye-catching natural grain. The ‘Satin’ is actually a type of sycamore which is quite rare, and in this case, slightly confusing as the finish is actually gloss!

The sides are made from solid Honduran mahogany, while the back features an elegant three-piece construction combining Honduran mahogany with curly maple. The neck uses a three-piece design, combining African mahogany with maple for added strength, stability and visual appeal. (Although I am leaning towards the strip of maple down the back of the neck being there for the stunning look as being the most important factor!). There’s also a gorgeous quilted maple headstock veneer.

Maple binding complements the body beautifully, while sparkling Mexican abalone is used for both the rosette and position markers. These tasteful decorative touches enhance the natural beauty of the woods without overwhelming them, creating an instrument that looks both refined and unique.

And how does it sound? A bit good! You don’t see many sycamore ukuleles out there. (Perhaps if they were everywhere, you’d be sick-of-more…). Why? Goodness knows if they sound like this! It’s lively, it’s rich, it sings, it’s full, it’s playful and articulate. What a fab thing! It’s a strictly limited edition apparently, which for me as a seller of ukuleles is bad news - as when one of these sells, I’d order another faster than a toilet stop in rattlesnake country.

This uke has a nut width just shy of 36mm, and is fitted with Gotoh UPT tuners. It’s an expensive uke, so what else would be fitted but these brilliant rear facing tuners.

There is a range of optional extras down at the bottom of the page that are easy to add on, like bags and cases (there’s not one included here) and strap buttons / low G fitting.
