L.Luthier Le Light Koa S All Solid Spruce and Formosan Koa Tenor Electro Ukulele
This is a really nice, punchy concert with an excellent pickup from L.Luthier. The only thing I don’t like about it is that the back and sides are solid acacia, not koa. Usually I would disregard any naming of such a model and just say acacia - but then the model itself is called the L.Luthier Le Light Koa S - it’s got koa in the name, so I’ve kept it for that reason only, so it makes sense.
For all of that, it’s a really nice instrument, and a concert ukulele with a slightly wider 37mm nut width, which is relatively rare. It’s one of those things that I don’t really notice either way, but if you do have larger fingertips, you might find helpful. The sound is bold and bright from the solid spruce top, but with some meat on the bones provided by the Savarez strings, which have good projection with a slightly more rounded edge to the tone.
There’s a really good gig bag provided as well, and a very capable, clean-sounding pickup with an undersaddle piezo, as well as an internal microphone, with controls mounted in the soundhole to allow you to vary the tone by blending between the two.
The finish is an excellent gloss, apart from the back of the neck, which is satin, and the Der Jung tuners are top notch too. You also get a side soundport to direct a bit more of the ample volume towards the player.
At the bottom of the page you’ll find a range of optional extras. These are common to all of the ukes on the site, so some are appropriate and some not. You can ignore the gig bag as it has one. You might want to go for a low G. And while the jack input has a strap button fixture, you might want to add a second strap button at the neck (if you do that, please put two in your basket so I know you need two places to hang a strap and know you’ve read there is one there already).
