Millar MG-240 All Solid Hawaiian Mango Concert Ukulele
This is the MG-240, an all solid mango concert ukulele from Millar, the small family-owned company from Taiwan. In recent years they've developed a strong reputation for great value, beautifully made ukuleles, and this concert uke is no exception.
The ukukele is made from richly patterned, Hawaiian mango, with interesting grain and colouration, finished in satin. The tone is sweet, with good volume and an even brightness, which has a shine and a shimmer as it slowly decays after a strum. Picked and the notes are clear and defined, but pleasantly full too.
The MG-240 from Millar has a 35mm nut width, and is a nice uke to play, with the team at Millar spending time to get their instruments playing well before they reach me. Although I'll make any adjustments neccessary on any ukulele of any brand, it builds my confidence to know that they take this aspect of the process as seriously as they do the build.
Mango is making waves as a sustainable tonewood with lovely sonic properties and this instrument is a great example of why that popularity is growing and growing.
