Handmade in the USA, this LoPrinzi custom tenor model is a lovely ukulele to play, to listen to and it’s understated but classic looks make it nice on the eye as well. Made in Clearwater, Florida, this is an example of (in relative terms!) an affordable luthier-made instrument. The maker in question is Donna LoPrinzi, who has been building ukuleles for over two decades, earning a great reputation for her skills.

This particular example features a solid spruce top, which is paired with solid sycamore on the back and sides, which are separated by black binding and a simple black and white soundhole rosette. It has a tactile satin finish and a really playable 36.5mm neck, with a slightly flattened profile that is a really good combination. It’s built light - which is great for the extra resonance it gives to the sound.

This LoPrinzi ukulele as lots of volume, and a great balance across the strings, with good note separation that allows you to hear individual strings in the chord, as well as excellent clarity when picking. It chimes with a zesty, punchy sound, with brightness from the spruce as expected, but with interesting overtones and undertones that makes even simple chords sound really quite melodic.

This LoPrinzi tenor ukulele is fitted with clear fluorocarbon strings and a set of great quality Grover geared tuners.
