Maestro UT-PA SB P8 All Solid 8-String Tenor Ukulele
This model is no longer available from World of Ukes.
The 8-string UT-PA tenor ukulele from Maestro is a handmade instrument, made from all solid padauk, an exotic African hardwood with an even and rich tone. The full name of UT PA SB P8 doesn't exactly roll of the tongue, but the gorgeous tone really rolls off your fingers.
I've fitted this Maestro UT-PA with Living Water fluorocarbon strings, which give a lovely sustain. The unwound low G is a little less dominant in the mix, which perfectly balances the highs and lows, while retaining a lovely chime and great volume.
The deep red padauk is matched with attractive maple binding, which matches the heartwood visible on the back of the instrument. There's a side sound port which delivers just a little bit of extra volume to your ear when you're playing.
As you'd expect from a premium, handmade instrument like this, the geared tuners, with nice compact black buttons, are very good quality, as is the granite-smooth ebony fingerboard with its impressive oriental inlays. An excellent brown wood shell hard case with plush cream lining is included too. The nut width, common to all Maestro tenors, is 37mm.
