Millar Custom All Solid Mango Concert Ukulele
This was a one-off instrument that has now sold.
This is a simply gorgeous looking all solid mango concert ukulele, made in Taiwan entirely by Millar’s head luthier. It’s a handmade ukulele of real beauty, with a warm, sweet tone to match.
The majority of those good looks come from the stunning Hawaiian mango used for the top, back and sides, though there’s a well executed abalone soundhole rosette, and really stylish slotted headstock to add extra flair. This concert ukulele has been given a flawless gloss finish.
Fitted to the uke are a bone nut and saddle, rosewood fingerboard and excelled Gotoh geared tuners. Millar went for Fremont Blackline strings with this model. These gave a rich, warm sound, with sweet mango overtones - and incredibly pretty sound. But for me, the volume from these strings isn’t the greatest, so I have fitted it with Worth Browns to give more punch and volume. It keeps elements of that warmth and softness of tone while delivering more clarity and chime.
It’s a beautiful thing to look at, and while the 35mm nut isn’t as wide as some would like it, it fits me like a glove, and a nicely fitting glove at that. It’s really comfortable to play, giving this Millar custom concert ukulele the holy trinity of qualities, beautiful sound, gorgeous looks and fantastic playability.
