The aNueNue US-10 BF is part of the company’s acclaimed Colour Series range, now available in soprano size. The BF stands for Black Forest, a deep, earthy green which appears on the top (named after a pantone colour). This gives it a very different appearance, as does the textured scratch guard that is built in to protect the satin finish from over-exuberant strumming! It’s supplied in a really excellent gig bag too, well padded and stylish.

You might be forgiven for wondering if the aNueNue US10 is a bit of a novelty, with all that effort put into making it look different. But the only novelty is that this is a well made, nice sounding instrument with good specification AND it’s got a coloured top. As aNueNue have gone for a solid spruce top, there’s good volume and clarity, and their own (very good) clear water fluorocarbon strings give nice sustain to boot. And despite the modern appearance, a bit of traditional soprano ‘bark’ creeps into the sound too. In short, it sounds good so don’t let the appearance trick you into thinking it’s all about the looks.

The Black Forest US-10 has a rosewood fingerboard and bridge and geared tuners, and the 35mm nut feels perfectly ‘normal’. There’s no challenges to playing, especially once the action (a touch high from the factory) is lowered here before it leaves.
