Baton Rouge UTM-S All Solid Spruce and Maple Soprano Ukulele
This soprano uke, from Baton Rouge’s rECOtimber range, is absolutely fanastic value give it is all solid. The top is solid German spruce and the back and sides are solid flamed maple. It really should not be this price! The rECOtimber is a technique developed to help season and dry the wood using heat, helping the wood to carry the vibrations that produce the sound. I don’t know about the science but I can see the fantastic value, at a price point when a fancy looking laminate uke is often a stretch, never mind an all solid uke!
This Baton Rouge UTM-S soprano ukulele has a 35mm nut width, a satin finish, a fitted strap button, abalone soundhole decoration and attractive maple binding. The fretboard is made from eucalyptus, with half moon shaped position markers down the side. It is fitted with Aquila strings. I am not an Aquila fan really but actually I think they suit sopranos more, giving this one a touch of vintage soprano ‘bark’. On a tenor I want to reach for the scissors and a set of fluorocarbon strings but this one is charming as it it. A healthy dose of projection, plenty of volume and some meaty depth to the sound.
The real selling factor is that sheer value. You just don’t get all solid ukes at this price level. Well, you do now, and congratulations Baton Rouge for pulling it off (but please don’t take this as the green light to put the prices up!).
There’s no bag supplied, but you can add those and other common accessories at the bottom of this page.
