Kala KA-F8D-ACMH-S Solid Acacia Top Pan Pacific Soprano Ukulele
Following a small run of koa topped Kala Pan Pacific models in 2025, the company decided to introduce the KA-F8D-ACMH-S - a solid acacia model, with sold mahogany back and sides. This because the sleek, vintage lines and lively-yet-full tone of the original limited edition really caught people’s imaginations. Kala have been involved in ukuleles for a long time, but while there’s a genuine love for the uke there, they’re also in business. When the limited stock of koa they had for that project ran out and all the ukes sold out in a matter of days - they realised the market was ready for such a fine looking soprano, and set about making more in materials that weren’t limited.
This model has a 35mm nut width, rear-facing geared tuners and Savarez strings. The latter are an interesting choice, a composite material that brings an element of good sustain and clarity like you’d get with fluorocarbon, with a thicker, fuller, more rounded edge like you’d get from the sound of nylon. As a result while this Kala soprano ukulele is bright and bouncy, it’s not thin at all, with the warmth of the solid acacia tonewood coming through.
At the bottom of the page you’ll find some optional extras - choices that are common to every page on my website. Some notes about these… While the KA-F8D-ACMH-S could have a hard case if you wanted, there’s a really good gig bag included (so you can ignore that option). You can opt for strap buttons to be fitted if you wish, or have me a fit a low G. Personally I am not the biggest fan of low G on a soprano but if going for this, I strongly recommend the wound Fremont option - as it has a bit more tension so doesn’t feel so floppy!
