Kiwaya KPS-1K Wider Neck All Solid Koa Soprano Ukulele
This is an exceptionally playable all solid koa soprano ukulele, with a 37mm nut width that will appeal to players who have larger hands or are used to larger scale ukes. The KPS-1K from Kiwaya is a Japanese made soprano from their 'strummer series', which is an odd name to give to instruments that, while perfectly adept at strumming, are really so much more. It excels at fingerpicking too (though it has to be said, the richness and clarity of tone does lend itself very well to strumming too... OK, I'll let them have the name after all!)
The koa is lovely, with gentle streaks of light and dark, which glows under a perfect, perfect gloss finish (so perfect, I said perfect twice). The ebony fingerboard is of really high quality, and it feels so smooth to play. As a tenor player myself, the neck is extremely comfortably, like a short tenor neck, rather than a soprano.
If you're thinking of investing in a top of the line soprano uke, but are put off because sopranos are normally your size, this KPS-1K presents a superb option, given just how playable it is for those used to bigger ukes.
It doesn't disappoint with sound at all, with plenty of volume and a brilliant clarity, which when strummed, blends together in a lovely way. Hard to describe - let's just call it exceptionally lovely!
