LoPrinzi Model A All Solid Black Limba Soprano Ukulele
This is a really fabulous soprano ukulele, handmade in the USA and made from all solid black limba. Black limba is an exotic hardwood, with really interesting grain, which is highlighted here by an abalone soundhole rosette for this soprano, which has a satin finish.
LoPrinzi ukuleles was set up by Augustino LoPrinzi in Clearwater, Florida, with the building work now being carried out by his daughter Donna, who has been making ukes for over 20 years.
This Model A (which refers to the body shape) has clear fluorcarbon strings, a nice playing action, smooth Rosewood fingerboard and Grover friction peg tuners. Those traditional looking tuners work really well - a far cry from the cheap and nasty pegs that have put some players off… these are good ones!
The nut width is 36.5mm, which combined with a thin neck profile gives the illusion of even more space to play with. It’s an absolute pleasure to play, feeling light and easy. And then you hear it! There’s bell like clarity to the tone, but a lovely resonant, sparkling warmth that you can feel vibrating in your chest when you play. It is fantastic - amongst the nicest sounding sopranos I’ve played. A real diamond.
