Millar CD-210MN All Solid Cedar and Rosewood Soprano Ukulele
Millar Ukuleles CD-210MN is an all solid soprano, offering excellent value for this classic wood combination. The 35mm nut width is perfectly straightforward, with the flattened back of the neck under the first fret making a comfortable anchor point for your thumb (a common feature across their range).
The top is solid red cedar, with a pleasingly streaked solid rosewood back and sides and mahogany binding.
The CD-210MN is fitted with excellent tuners from Der Jung, regular geared models, but nice and smooth-turning. The body is around 3/4 of the depth of a regular soprano, tapering to be a little deeper towards the base of the uke, making it nice and compact, but still full sounding.
One thing I like with Millar, which other companies should do more of, is that they match ukuleles to strings, rather than always stick with the same brand. The CD-210MN has Aquila strings on, which accentuate the traditional sound - with a nice chiming effect and a good bit of old-school bark. There's plenty of 'oomph' in the sound, which is both loud and full, with a some sparkly highs finishing things off nicely. I don’t like Aquila on everything, but do like them on this.
