Millar Custom All Solid Black Walnut Ukulele
This is a lovely all solid walnut soprano ukulele, made by Millar’s head luthier in Taiwan. Usually something made by one craftsman should be very expensive, but in this case, they were experimenting with new materials - in this case, a supply of black walnut that they wanted to try. The result is lovely, a no-frills, sweet and full sounding soprano ukulele. It has nice sparkle in the trebles, a traditional soprano ‘bark’ and a good amount of depth too.
It has great quality geared tuners from Der Jung, Worth brown strings, a satin finish and a 35mm nut width.
What does it sound like? It sounds lovely. You will have to trust me on this. Only two of these were made, and do I think I will get around to making a video demo? No. I just have to hope there are enough people out there who understand that Millar are a great ukulele maker, that if I say it’s good, then it really is. And someone who realises that £429 for a luthier made instrument is, frankly, silly!
At the bottom of the page, beneath the photos, you’ll find some optional extras. While standard to every ukulele on the site, all of them potentially apply to this Millar custom soprano ukulele. There’s no case or bag with this - so those options are available. You can also add a strap button or two if you need one. There’s also the option to add a low G. I am not really a fan of low G on a soprano - but if you want to do it, go for the Fremont option - as the wound string doesn’t sound as ‘floppy’ on a small uke like this.
