Millar MG-210L All Solid Mango Long Neck Soprano Ukulele
This Millar MG-210L is a beautiful solid mango marvel, a long neck soprano ukulele with so much going for it. It looks utterly gorgeous. And it sounds utterly gorgeous. And it's lovely to play. OK, so that's three things, but when you're considering which ukulele to buy, these are pretty important factors.
The highly figured mango is really gorgeous - full of streaks and varied grain, with a simple mother of pearl soundhole decoration. There's a smooth rosewood fingerboard and tidy bridge, with a bone nut and saddle. This 35mm neck is a concert scale, paired with a soprano body - giving more frets to play with, but a more traditional soprano sound.
And on to the sound of the MG-210L long neck soprano then. Well, it's a veritable pick 'n' mix of qualities. It's bright and loud, but rich and sweet. It possesses a typical soprano bark, but sings out well and gives some nice sustain too. And after the initial burst of well projected clarity, the harmonics gently ebb away with a really complex character that makes you smile.
With Worth Brown strings fitted, and a flattened neck just behind the first fret, it feels great to play - with that flat section anchoring your thumb nicely.
The Millar MG-210L is, if you ask me, punching so far above its (light) weight that although it isn't cheap, if you added £200 onto the price I still think it would be well worth it. A real pleasure.
