Millar TM-210L All Solid Mahogany Long Neck Soprano Ukulele
This is a well made, simple looking but good quality all solid mahogany ukulele, the Millar TM-210L. There’s also a TM-210LL model - just to be clear, that extra ‘L’ refers to the decoration - this one has none, and the LL has binding and inlay. But, yes, while it is plain, its really well made and has a real vintage soprano tone. This is aided by the Fremont Blacklines, which really allow the warmth of the mahogany come through.
Millar are a small family company in Taiwan, a small producer who really take time and care over their instruments, even at the lower end of their range like this one. It’s a long neck soprano ukulele, which has a concert neck and scale length with a soprano size body. This gives a traditional soprano sweetness and perky nature, while giving you a neck that has a bit more room, lengthways, between the frets.
Like most Millar Ukuleles, these TM-210L’s have a 35mm nut, with a slightly flattened area on the back of the neck under the lower frets - perfect for anchoring your thumb on. While I’d sort it anyway if it wasn’t, these have a nice low action from the box - so my role is more checking everything is good. It’s lightly made and feels good in the hands and is fitted with D’addario black nylon strings.
The Millar TM-210L is ideal for those who maybe cast envious eyes towards the vintage reproductions that Kiwaya make, but don’t want to stretch to that sort of budget.
