Singer RS1M-TS All Solid Mahogany Soprano Ukulele by aNueNue
The Singer RS1M-TS soprano ukulele is made by aNueNue under the Singer brand name - their name for a series of instruments they’ve designed to appeal more to those with a taste for vintage instruments. When they did this, I don’t think they did it more successfully than with this lovely all solid mahogany soprano uke. It’s got a gorgeous sound, with a nice chime, mahogany warmth and richness, plenty of volume and some old school soprano ‘bark’. It still retains the best of the aNueNue DNA, in its impeccable gloss finish and fine build qualty, and in that sense (plus its nice sustain), it still gives you the best of what a modern ukulele can give you.
The RS1M-TS has a gloss finish, and a tobacco sunburst finish (that’s the TS in the name). This is nicely done, giving a gentle gradient towards the dark hues from the more natural centre of the sunburst. The grain of the mahogany is visible too, and with the simple abalone soundhole decoration and rosewood binding, it has plenty to please the eye as well as the ear. The headstock adds yet more style to the mix.
The nut width is around 36.5mm, a touch wider than many soprano ukuleles. There’s a bit of confusion about this if you check different listings on line, but that’s what I measured. (I was particularly confused at first as measured and realised I’d picked up an Uma uke instead - but I got there in the end!). It is fitted with Gotoh UPT tuners which are superb, with their precision engineering. The look like friction pegs - essential to the style the makers were going for - but contain gears for super smooth tuning.
At the bottom of the page you’ll find a series of option extras, but you can ignore the hard case option amongst this selection of standard add-ons, as the Singer RS1M-TS comes with a fantastic green hard case which is as stylish as the uke is.
There’s a video demo of the Singer RS1M-TS soprano ukulele, if you look for ‘additional info’ below.
