This is a discontinued model with a big reduction. Koki’o is the house brand of the company behind Risa Ukuleles, and their models are usually found in Germany only. They’re a series of Chinese made instruments, produced in the same factories as many of our very best known ukuleles here in the UK. But because they’re the same factories there has never been a huge call to have them here - as they are similar to what is on offer from those more familiar brands.

In the case of this concert resonator ukulele, it’s very familiar and made to the exact dimensions as other full-metal-body resonator ukes already available here. Koki’o ukes have been discontinued so I have been able to acquire some of their last models on very good deals, including this one.

It’s something of a beast - with that brushed brass effect metal body, with a resonator cone inside. It has Aquila strings and a 35mm nut and it is supplied with a hard case. There’s loads of volume, and much better sustain that on some resonator ukes I’ve tried. (Sustain isn’t really something you’d particularly expect in a resonator, but this one rings out better than most). The strings are a good fit too - Aquila’s burst of initial projection really help the raspy, metallic sound burst out.

I was pleasantly surprised when I tried these and had a lot of fun trying it out. There were some sharp fret ends - but things like that are ironed out with my set up process (which applies to anything in the special offers section too).

If there is a drawback it is that there are no strap buttons and I am not able to fit them. So this would be a case of a uke for someone who sits down.
