ONE-OFF Kala Vintage Metropolitan Shrine Mahogany Soprano Ukulele
This is the Vintage Metropolitan Shrine Mahogany Soprano Ukulele from Kala, also known as the KA-VMET-SHRINE-MHG-S. Not known as that by anyone human, who would probably just call it the Kala Shrine.
This is Kala’s description:
This Shrine shape soprano recreates the tapered, unconventional outline of the 1920s Shrine. Paired with a distinctive green and black maple rosette, maple binding, and a period accurate pin bridge. All solid mahogany back, sides, and top delivers a warm, direct tone with punchy midrange. Metropolitan-level finish and appointments bring it into modern playing standards. A perfect fit for collectors and soprano purists who want something rare, playable, and built to last.
A handful were made to find out if there was a market for them. One of them got to the UK. This is that one. Is there a market? Who knows. It certainly sounds decent but I don’t think I’d pay the full price for one. I think if you’re a collector or have a particular interest in the jazz era, then this is a lovely instrument for you.
It has a gig bag, which is a good thing - especially as it is fitted to this particular instrument.
Please note - items in my special orders section can only be ordered online, and can't be tried in store. Also, they're available to UK customers only.
