This is a used instrument. Very used! It’s battered and worn and interesting. There are multiple dings, marks and scratches. It’s old and it’s had a history… but it plays well.

With a concert scale, it is tuned A-A (AEGCEA), giving a low G ukulele plus two extra bass notes. It actually plays pretty well.

I estimate it’s from the 60’s or 70s, but have no real idea. It has a sticker on it from the shop it was purchased from. This was ‘Willi Gaggl’, in Villach and my juvenile sense of humour finds that quite amusing, sorry! It was a music store in Austria which closed in 2012. There you go, I know more about the shop than the uke itself.

I would treat this as a piece of history, something great to look at and own. It plays, and sounds decent but by modern standards it’s fairly basic.

There’s an example that sold to a collector for around £300. But whether I’ll find a collector, I don’t know.
