USED Ohana OBU-22 Short Scale Bass
This is a used instrument. It has some small scratches here and there, it’s not perfect, but there’s nothing really to point out in terms of anything… photographable. It’s broadly fine, and if you’re not peering very closely, looks spot on.
Crucially this one is supplied with a fitted hard case. That is not usually the case (there’s a gig bag provided). But this has an excellent case with it.
This Ohana OBU-22 bass ukulele is a great, compact bass, ideal for ukulele groups because of its diminutive size. Up to you really, if you want to call it a ukulele bass or a short scale electro acoustic bass, but certainly because it is a small bass, it will fit in well with uke group aesthetics. With a scale length of just over 25 inches, it feels similar to an acoustic guitar scale – with a neck that feels decisively bass guitar-like. In this way, it will also suit a regular bass player who wants to join a uke club, or just have something a bit smaller in their arsenal.
The OBU-22 from Ohana is fitted with a Fishman undersaddle pickup and active pre-amp, which features tone and volume controls as well as a phase control (basically helps if you’re suffering feedback issues). Crucially too, there’s an in-built tuner – which is handy as a) you can lose it, and b) it is accurate for this instrument. Your usual clip-on tuner can sometimes struggle with bass frequencies.
Where the Ohana OBU-22 bass scores well over the marketed ukulele basses with rubber-feel strings is the acoustic volume. While no, it isn’t going to fill a hall with noise, without plugging in you can still get something that is more than ‘quiet practice’ volume. That said, it is still an instrument that you want to plug in, particularly with the range of tones you can achieve by altering the bass, mids, treble and brilliance. The end result is very bass-guitar, with the roundwound strings effectively emulating the Ohana’s larger cousins, but in a smaller package.
Sorry, I can’t send anything from the Special Offers section to the EU.
