This is a used instrument. It’s a good few years old and yet has been looked after. So while it’s not perfect, neither are there any specific concerns, damage or scratches to report on. There is the odd hairline scratch from clothing here and there but it’s really pretty good. You can tell it is older though as the spruce has aged and dried and yellowed. Perfectly naturally.

The exception is with the tuners. They work perfectly well but the metal on the cogs has lost its shine.

The Pono BN-30DA (also known as the Baritone Nui) is a hybrid instrument. While its 23-inch scale length matches that of standard tenor guitars, it is specifically braced for nylon strings and typically tuned to Chicago tuning (D-G-B-E), bridging the gap between a large baritone ukulele and a classical guitar. Because the instrument is built with a larger body and longer scale, it produces guitar-like sustain, rich harmonic overtones, and excellent bass response. The nylon string build gives it a deep, mellow warmth akin to a parlour classical guitar, but with the distinct voicing of a tenor guitar.

It’s hard to find an example of the BN-30DA, which pairs solid acacia on the back and sides with the spruce top, so it’s likely very few were made. This one comes with its original fitted hard case. The nut width is 35mm. So not a wide as some baritones, but wider than traditionally seen on a tenor guitar.
