aNueNue T3-E Solid Mahogany Top Electro Tenor Ukulele
This is the electro version of the T3 tenor ukulele from aNueNue, with the addition of their Mini U active pickup. This gives a clean, low-noise, sound, with a simple volume wheel control inside the soundhole.
The aNueNue T3-E tenor ukulele, from their Hawaiian Dream series, is an attractive, affordable, solid top instrument, with a gig bag, a neat and tidy build and a sound that definitely punches above its weight. What more could you want? Well… I suppose you could want it for free, and personally delivered by a scantily clad film star of your choice. Perhaps I should rephrase that as ‘what more could you reasonably want?’
The T3-E from aNueNue has a satin finish, and uses attractive mahogany, which is solid on the top and laminate on the back and sides. This is broken up by some nice hardwood binding and a bit of sparkle is added with the abalone soundhole decoration. What is a very affordable package is completed by rosewood fingerboard and bridge, good quality geared tuners, a pretty, and pretty decent gig bag, and a set of fitted aNueNue clear water fluorocarbon strings.
With a 36mm nut, the uke feels comfortable - with that average width accommodating most players nicely. But of course, all of these things are nice… but what does it sound like? The proof of the pudding, as nobody says, ever, is in the listening.
The tone, for me, is impressive enough to make me check my invoice a few times to check that it shouldn’t be a lot more money. There’s some fullness from the solid top, and some nice chiming highs from those fluorocarbon strings. There’s plenty of volume and that volume is retained well up to the further reaches of the neck. While it is nice when strummed, that clarity means it’s great for picking too.
The only question I have is how they do it? When you look at some of the major brands and what they produce at this sort of money, you have to congratulate aNueNue for such a great sounding, affordable tenor uke.
