aNueNue UT10 AM Solid Top Almond Milk Tenor Ukulele
This is the UT-10 AM ukulele from aNueNue, a tenor sized uke from their colour series. This applies a satin, coloured finish to a solid spruce top, paired with attractive laminate mahogany back and sides. The result is a uke that looks good, if not one for the traditionalists, but also sounds good too.
The spruce top gives nice projection and clarity, while the tenor body lends a bit more fullness to the tone. The result is a nice mix of punchy trebles and some background warmth. It’s versatile too, giving plenty of volume with a strum with your nails, but sounding much smoother and warmer when strummed gently with the thumb. In short it sounds good, and that sound is very impressive when compared to many other ukes at this price range (many of which may be pretty, but are all laminate).
There’s a cutaway body shape and slightly raised, textured scratch guard, which gives the coloured top of the UT-10 uke some protection. aNueNue’s own (excellent) fluorocarbon Clear Water strings are used, the geared tuners are decent and the maple fingerboard and bridge, smooth and tactile. The neck is 35mm, which is pretty standard feeling, and there’s a nice gig bag too.
Personally, I find from the factory the action is acceptable, but the strings are slightly higher above the fingerboard than I’d personally like. But no need to request anything special, I’ll take care of that before it goes (and the synthetic bone saddle is really really hard, so you may as well let me build up my muscles sanding that down!).
Just one minor, boring point. Inside this uke it says UT-10. So I am going with that, although all my paperwork lists this as an aNueNue UCT-10.
