aNueNue UT10 BA Solid Top Blue Arona Tenor Ukulele
aNueNue have now expanded their range to include a tenor size version of their popular UC (ukulele colour) series ukes. This is the ‘Blue Arona’, a powder blue coloured uke, with the name taken from the pantone colour. Under that finish is a solid spruce top, while the back and sides are a natural, satin finish laminate mahogany.
Before going any further, it is worth mentioning that beyond the sleek shape, colourful look and attractive design, that this is a solid spruce top uke, made really well, with a good gig bag included. Take away all of the fancy looks and it is still a well priced instrument. Add it all back in and it’s really good value.
The UT-10 BA tenor ukulele from aNueNue has decent quality geared tuners, a rosewood fingerboard and bridge and aNueNue Clear Water strings. The strings are a big favourite of mine, so it’s nice to see those in place. The uke has a cutaway and aNueNue’s distinctive body shape, bringing echoes of their premium Moon Bird range, with a small raised scratch plate. This looks interesting but has a practical purpose too, protecting that coloured finish against your strumming hand.
As you’d expect from spruce, there’s some brightness to the sound, with good volume and projection. The tenor body gives a fuller sound than it’s concert equivalent, but the UT-10 BA is definitely not shy when it comes to its 'punch’. The standard, 35mm nut feels very average - not in a bad way, just in a ‘that feels familiar’ way!
When the concert ukes came out in this range, I remember messaging Johnson, who owns aNueNue, saying ‘please make tenors!’ I don’t regret doing so!
Just one minor, boring point. Inside this uke it says UT-10. So I am going with that, although all my paperwork lists this as an aNueNue UCT-10.
