aNueNue UT-166 Feather Bird All Solid Maple and Mango Tenor Ukulele
If I’d have been completely accurate when writing out the title of this aNueNue UT-166 I’d have described it as an all solid maple, cedar and mango tenor. The back and sides are a lovely golden mango, while the top is made from both cedar and mango. This ‘double top’ method uses a layer of lovely looking maple on the top, with a resonant layer of cedar underneath. The idea is to give elements of both, with a crisp chime from the cedar and a mellow roundedness from the maple. I quite like to think of whoever dreamed up ths process, which is also found in the guitar world, making their plan and then finding (probably to their surprise), that it actually works exactly like the theory!
The Feather Bird is a gloss finished tenor ukulele, with a satin neck, with a slotted headstock and geared tuners, fitted with aNueNue Black Water fluorocarbon strings. It comes with a very smart, vibrant looking orange hard case, which is great quality. There’s also dark hardwood binding, abalone detail around the soundhole and attractive position markers in the shape of feathers inlaid into the ebony fingerboard. The nut and saddle are made of bone and the former is a shade over 36.5mm. There’s a new shape to the end of the neck too, where it joins the body, with a curved end which is designed to make it easier to access the upper frets, in combination with the cutaway. (This also works!)
The Feather Bird ukes combine aNueNue’s superb craftsmanship and execution of finish with the innovative double top method, for something that’s vibrant, attractive and thoroughly modern.
At the bottom of the page you’ll find a series of optional extras you can easily add, although you won’t need a bag or case on account of the excellent hard case provided with this model. You might though opt for a low G, or strap buttons.
